Alan Stubbs talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United boss Alan Stubbs was pleased with his side’s work out after a 2-1 victory over Miedz Legnica at Hotel Remes.

The Millers kicked off their pre-season tour of Poland with a victory, with Jerry Yates and Richie Smallwood on target after Stubbs’ side went behind in the first half.

After the game the Millers boss admitted he was pleased with the performance after he got vital minutes into several members of his squad.

“In terms of the workout I thought it was a step up from Saturday which was good and what we wanted and expected,” Stubbs told Millers Player.

“I am pleased with the players that managed to get 60 minutes, and a few of them have played 72, and a couple of them have had to play 90. From that point of view we are happy. Everyone has come through the game and there doesn’t seem to be any other knocks or injuries.

“I thought that first half we probably made too many unforced errors. We tried to rush the pass rather than be a little more patient. In the second half I thought that we were better, we slightly changed the formation a little. It was difficult because we played a team that when they didn’t have the ball they put 11 players behind it. When that is the case you have to be a little more patient because you have to break them down, but second half I thought that we did that better.”

Stubbs confirmed he aired on the side of caution over a couple of members of his squad who are nursing minor knocks, but revealed that they are set to return for Friday’s clash with Gornik Zabrze.

He added:

“We have got one or two boys who we are just protecting a bit. Some have just felt a little bit tight as you do at this time of the year, but we don’t want to turn that into a muscle injury so we have been a little bit cautious but we will have a few back on Friday.”
