The Millers are beaten at Hartlepool...

Rotherham United Reserves were beaten 4-0 away at Hartlepool United in the Final Third Development League.

The Millers were defeated after goals from Rakish Bingham, Billy Paynter and a brace from Connor Smith secured the victory for the hosts against a Rotherham team predominantly made up of Academy scholars.

Rotherham did include duo Jordan Bowery and Chris Maguire who have returned from loan spells at Bradford and Oxford respectively.

It was the home team that took control of proceedings early on when Bingham opened the scoring firing past Laurence Bilboe.

Josh Nearney squared the ball for the experienced Paynter who tapped home the second for Pools.

The closest the Millers came to a goal in the first half was a sharp header from striker Kuda Muskwe but his effort flashed just wide.

Just after the interval Connor Smith lifted the ball over Bilboe from just inside the area for Hartlepool’s third, and then Smith added his second soon after as the home side sealed the victory.

It could have been more for Pools but credit must go to Millers’ stopper Bilboe who made a terrific save to deny Brad Walker late on.

Rotherham: Bilboe; Bailey, Peace-McDonald, Saxton, Smalley (Abraham 78), Maguire (Wiles 65), Dickinson (Adeyemi 65), Potts, Bailey-King, Bowery (Redmayne 65), Muskwe.

Subs not used: Fidler.
