The Millers win at Hartlepool...

Academy manager Garreth Barker praised his side’s desire to go right to the end after a late goal earned a 3-2 victory over Hartlepool United.

After the game with Mansfield fell victim to the weather, the journey north to face Pools was, for most, the first competitive action since the Christmas break.

It was also a second trip to the North East for the majority of the squad following a Final Third Development fixture against Pools on the Wednesday.

Ben Wiles, Fabian Bailey and Darnelle Bailey-King were on target as Barker’s side as they recorded their fourth win in five.

“It was a great win on the road,” Barker told www.themillers.co.uk

“It was the first real Academy game since mid-December due to Christmas and cancellations.

“We wanted a good performance and plenty of effort and that’s exactly what we got from the lads.

“We went 1-0 down but equalised through Ben Wiles. Fabian Bailey, playing in an unfamiliar role, put us in front with a 25 yard strike before Hartlepool pegged us back at 2-2.

“Then in injury time we got a break and Darnelle, playing on the left side, cut in on his right before calmly finishing inside the 18-yard box.

“We managed the last few minutes well and overall it was a very rewarding day.”
