The Millers draw in the Final Third Development League...

Rotherham United had to settle for a share of the spoils with Scunthorpe United as they played out a 1-1 draw at a rain-soaked Roundwood in the Final Third Development League.

First team boss Neil Warnock looked on as the Millers took the lead through a strike from Jerry Yates, before Hakeeb Adelakun levelled for the visitors.

New signing Jerome Thomas was given a start in an experienced line-up which also included the likes of Danny Collins, Andrew Shinnie and Greg Halford.

The Milers were the better side in the first half and created a number of good openings. Yates glanced an inviting cross from Emmanuel Ledesma just wide of the post and Shinnie fired narrowly wide after good build up play involving Thomas and Yates.

Shinnie was involved again soon after capitalising on a mistake by Riley Baker. He drove into the box but his effort was saved by Joe Parker at his near post, with Ledesma pouncing on the rebound but his powerful shot was blocked.

Yates showed neat footwork to carve out another good chance on 15 minutes but he dragged his shot wide of the near post.

The closest the Millers came in the first half was on 21 minutes with Shinnie at the heart of the move again. The Birmingham loanee turned neatly on the edge of the area before thundering a shot against the crossbar.

Just before the break Shinnie was again denied, this time by a low sprawling save from Parker.

After the break the Millers’ pressure finally paid off. On 50 minutes Lewis Buxton made good progress down the right before teeing up Yates who fired the ball low into the net.

Just before the hour mark Scunthorpe levelled. The dangerous Adelakun showed nimble feet in the area before powering a low shot beyond Alex Cairns.

Cairns was called into action again on 68 minutes when he pushed away a low drive from Kyle Wootton.

The game petered out towards the end with the heavy downpour making it tough for both sides who were forced to settle for a point apiece.
