Millers record victory over Magpies...

Rotherham United’s Academy ground out a spirited 1-0 win against Notts County in a game that Academy manager Garreth Barker was ‘not one for the purists’.

The Millers prevailed as victors over the Magpies on a blustery morning at Arnold Town’s Eagle Valley Stadium with Ben Wiles’ header proving the difference between the sides.

Barker’s Millers youngsters edged themselves in front before three minutes had elapsed when Alaster Redmayne’s work on the wing saw him cut inside and deliver a tantalising centre, which Wiles glanced home from close range.

The Millers then had to weather a storm from the hosts but stood firm to record maximum points leaving Barker delighted with his side’s application in Nottinghamshire.

“It wasn’t ideal conditions for the game, in terms of both climate and the condition of the pitch,” he admitted.

“It meant we had to discuss a different way of playing and that is important to us too. We try to stick with the club’s principles and style but sometimes it is about game management and the young players showed a real appreciation for that."
