Kevin Blackwell gives his team news ahead of the trip to Reading...

Rotherham United assistant manager Kevin Blackwell says he will wait on the fitness of striker Danny Ward ahead of the trip to the Madejski Stadium but has no fresh injury concerns in camp prior to the Sky Bet Championship showdown with the Royals.

Former Huddersfield Town frontman Ward was taken off as a precautionary measure after sustaining a knock to the head at Turf Moor and Blackwell admits he may miss out on the trip to Berkshire as a result.

“He looks as though he won’t be available as a result of a concussion,” Blackwell told www.themillers.co.uk.

“Unfortunately, I think that leads to him missing the next game but that depends on the severity and he’s seen the doctor this morning so there is still a chance.

“Other than that, Lloyd Doyley came off a little bit tired but everybody else from the weekend is fit.”

However, the Millers management team will be handed a boost in the defensive department with suspended duo Richard Wood and Joe Mattock returning to the action after serving their one-game suspension sentence against Burnley on Saturday.

“They’re clear now of suspension from the bookings that they got against Birmingham, so we need that competition for places and it adds that strength in depth on the bench so that we can change games if we need to,” Blackwell added.

Club captain Lee Frecklington is also back in full training after an suffering a groin injury which setback his recovery but Blackwell insists the former Lincoln City man will receive close attention from Paul Warne and Nicky Eaden.

“Lee started training this morning and we have put him specifically with Warney to get him racing fit as quickly as we can and then he’ll stay with Nicky Eaden,” he explained.

“Nicky will have a really big job this week to make sure that those fringe players are worked very hard while we are away in Reading to give us an option for Saturday.
