£16k Funding secured for men’s health project!

We are pleased to announce that we have received funding from BUPA UK Foundation to deliver a new and exciting men’s health project across Rotherham. The programme aims to spread the word that “physical and mental health are of equal importance”.

According to recent studies, poor physical health can lead to an increased risk of developing mental health problems. Similarly, poor mental health can negatively impact on physical health, leading to an increased risk of some conditions.

Prime Minister David Cameron has recently said: "We have focused a lot on physical health and we haven't as a country focused enough on mental health."

will focus on both physical and mental health by offering a combination of free weekly physical exercise sessions and free monthly wellbeing workshops at the ASSEAL New York Stadium for anyone who signs up to the programme!MENTALk HEALTHOur new project

The physical sessions will involve sports such as football, rugby and boxing whilst the workshops will provide advice and support around issues such as managing emotions and mood, anxiety, depression, healthy eating and nutrition and general topics that should increase knowledge around how to be a happier and healthier person.

In addition to the above all participants will receive a free T-shirt and 6 free match tickets for next season’s fixtures!

“This is an exciting opportunity for the trust and could have a great impact on the men of Rotherham. Physical and mental health are fundamentally linked, if you feel rubbish mentally, you are likely to neglect your physical health same as if you have poor physical health, it is likely to affect your mental wellbeing. This project enables us to support men to become more active but it also gives us the opportunity to share knowledge and tools that will help promote positive mental wellbeing”Trudi Race (Disability officer) says

We have had massive support from players, Local pubs and businesses that are keen to help promote the project. Some pubs are even competing against each other to sign up as many men as possible and win tickets to a fixture!

The project starts in April 2016. If you require any further information please contact Trudi Race on: 07961108640 or trace@rotherhamunited.net
