Alan Stubbs talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs says new signing Jon Taylor will fit seamlessly into his style of play after completing a club record deal for the winger.

The former Shrewsbury operator agreed a three-year deal at AESSEAL New York Stadium after the Millers agreed an undisclosed fee with Peterborough United for his services.

Ahead of the opening day fixture with Wolves this Saturday, Stubbs was delighted to get the deal over the line, and has backed Taylor to be a big hit in South Yorkshire.

"The fact that we have broken our club record transfer fee just shows you what we think of Jon, and what he can bring to the football club," Stubbs told www.themillers.co.uk

"He is a very dynamic footballer who has got an eye for a goal. He is also a creative player and I think that he will be an excellent addition to the squad. He fits the profile of the players that we are looking to bring here."

Taylor has often been the scourge of the Millers in the past following his stint with Shrewsbury, scoring at AESSEAL New York Stadium in a previous 2-2 draw.

The diminutive figure can play in a number of positions, and Stubbs explained his versatility will be a major asset for the Millers.

"He gives us options in terms of that he can play anywhere across the forward line, so that's either wing or in behind the striker," he added.

"To be able to give us that flexibility is great but most importantly his role within the team will be to be dynamic. He is very quick, he looks like he enjoys taking defenders on which is great to see, and I think that he will be a very exciting player.

"He has a good understanding of his responsibilities within the team, and the most important one for him is obviously attacking, but he is very aware of his job defensively as well. His work rate for a winger is very good."

Taylor is the sixth summer signing following the arrivals of Anthony Forde, Lewis Price, Jake Forster-Caskey, Will Vaulks and Kelvin Wilson.
