The Rotherham United Community Sports Trust have received funding from BUPA UK Foundation to deliver a new and exciting men’s health project across Rotherham.

The programme aims to spread the word that “physical and mental health are of equal importance”.

According to recent studies, poor physical health can lead to an increased risk of developing mental health problems. Similarly, poor mental health can negatively impact on physical health, leading to an increased risk of some conditions.

Our new project MENTALk HEALTH will focus on both physical and mental health by offering a combination of free weekly physical exercise sessions and free monthly wellbeing workshops at the AESSEAL New York Stadium for anyone who signs up to the programme!

The physical sessions will involve sports such as football, rugby and boxing whilst the workshops will provide advice and support around issues such as managing emotions and mood, anxiety, depression, healthy eating and nutrition and general topics that should increase knowledge around how to be a happier and healthier person.

In addition to the above all participants will receive a free tee-shirt and six free match tickets for next season’s fixtures!

Trudi Race (Disability officer) says: “This is an exciting opportunity for the trust and could have a great impact on the men of Rotherham. Physical and mental health are fundamentally linked, if you feel rubbish mentally, you are likely to neglect your physical health same as if you have poor physical health, it is likely to affect your mental wellbeing. This project enables us to support men to become more active but it also gives us the opportunity to share knowledge and tools that will help promote positive mental wellbeing”
