Neil Redfearn makes his first signing as Rotherham United boss...

Rotherham United have signed Norwich City defender Harry Toffolo on an emergency loan deal, subject to Football League and Premier League ratification.

The Millers swooped for the 20-year-old after Joe Mattock picked up a shoulder injury in the game at Griffin Park on Saturday, and Toffolo becomes Neil Redfearn’s first signing as manager of the Millers.

Toffolo progressed through the youth ranks at Carrow Road before breaking into the first team and enjoyed a loan spell at Swindon Town last season, in which he made 30 appearances.

After arriving in South Yorkshire yesterday, the Welwyn Garden City-born defender linked up with his new team mates at club training headquarters at Roundwood this morning.

“I first heard the news yesterday morning,” Harry told www.themillers.co.uk

“I was getting ready to spend my Sunday with my girlfriend but then I got the news from my agent, and I was very keen to come to Rotherham.”

Toffolo played against the Millers earlier in the campaign in the Capital One Cup at AESSEAL New York Stadium, and is the third player to join the Millers from the Canaries this season, following the arrival of Tony Andreu and Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe on loan deals.

“I really enjoyed the game earlier in the season with Norwich,” Harry added.

“I was impressed with the stadium from the minute I turned up, so I am looking forward to playing here for Rotherham now. I have trained today and all the lads have been great with me so I am really excited now to be here.

“I spoke to them (Tony and Vadis) and also to John Swift who I played with at Swindon last season, and they were all very complimentary about the place. Tony has been involved here so it has been good to see him and knowing him already will help me settle in.

“Everyone has been really good to me and made me feel welcome. It can be quite intimidating going into a new club and new environment, but here it has been great.”

Toffolo has also represented England at under 18, 19 and 20 levels.
