Ray Matthews to complete 75 marathons in 75 days...

Marathon man Ray Matthews is set to embark on a mammoth journey that will see him attempt to complete 75 marathons, in 75 days starting after his 75th birthday in an attempt to raise £75,000 for Newman School.

Ray launched his event in front of a crowd of friends, family and supporters at Clifton Lane Rugby Club and recalled stories of his previous running exploits as guests tucked in to pie and peas.

Millers’ defender Frazer Richardson was one of the faces in the audience as Ray was joined by the Deputy Mayor and Sean Wallage of MW Entertainments on the top table with Charlie Graves hosting the night on the mic.

Seasoned runner Ray is aiming to raise £75,000 for Newman School which provides specialist provision required to support children with a range of special educational needs and disabilities.

His training is now well underway with Ray putting in the miles twice-a-day in an attempt to increase the mileage in a controlled fashion to reach over 100 miles per week.

Ray is hoping that his fundraising efforts will cover the cost of an all-new outdoor play area at the school and began adding funds to that kitty as guests got involved in the raffle and auction at Clifton Lane.

Ray is hoping to attract a household name star to join him on his first marathon and his wish list of celebrities includes Jessica Ennis-Hill, Eddie Izzard, John Bishop and Paula Radcliffe and is on the search for a contact who may be able to help him.

If anyone has any contact information for any of the above names then try and help Ray by sending an email to mw.entertainments@googlemail.com
