Academy slip to defeat against Magpies...

Rotherham United’s Academy slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Notts County at Roundwood in the Youth Alliance U18 North East division.

The Millers’ youngsters mustered a spirited fightback following the restart but were unable to claw their way back from 2-0 down despite Kuda Muskwe’s second half reply.

A number of the Rotherham United side had taken part in the Final Third Development League clash with Hartlepool United in the week but showed no signs of fatigue as they launched an onslaught on goal after the break in a game that saw them register nearly 20 shots on target.

Academy Manager Garreth Barker admitted that his side weren’t the quickest out of the blocks but was pleased with the reaction at half time.

“It was a game of two halves and I thought we did okay in the first period but we were nowhere near as good as we have been in recent weeks,” he explained to www.themillers.co.uk

“We had a discussion at half time and made some changes. We hit the crossbar and the upright, had a couple cleared off the line and their ‘keeper has made a heroic save. We feel like we should have got a point from the game.

“I think we’ve had 19 shots on target and we’re happy with that, but the boys have to convert those chances if we’re wanting to get the points."

Millers: Bilboe, Bailey, Smalley (Hinds 76), Conneh, Peace-McDonald, Rose, Redmayne, Potts, Muskwe (Abraham 55), Wiles (Dickinson 68), Johnson.

Unused: Fidler, Saxton.
