Millers' boss keen to 'change the face of Rotherham'...

Neil Redfearn says he is hoping to inject more youth into his side as he looks to build for the future at Rotherham United.

The Millers’ boss added highly-rated Manchester City youngster Brandon Barker to the ranks at AESSEAL New York Stadium on Friday and insists he will use young players as the cornerstone as he looks to establish his team in the Sky Bet Championship.

“It’s exciting because he fits into quite a young group,” Redfearn told www.themillers.co.uk

“If you look at Grant Ward, Farrend Rawson and Harry Toffolo then you can see that we’ve added another exciting young player and we want to build Rotherham back around that.

“We want better quality youngsters and more players that fit into that category. If we can get one or two more over then it makes us a better side.”

Redfearn hinted that there could be more activity on the transfer front in the coming days with some older heads potentially joining the group, whilst also suggesting that members of the current Millers’ squad could depart.

“We want to build a side around youth and legs with some experience amongst it,” he explained.

“We’ve got two or three experienced players coming in next week for us to look at. With that in mind we started the process of one or two perhaps moving on and it’s not a slant on anyone or anything, it’s just what happens in football.”

The Millers’ manager is keen to lay the foundations for the future of the club and insists change is needed to compete in the Championship.

“We’ve got to change the face of Rotherham.

“We’ve done great to get to this level and now we’re short so we need to adjust and develop something that is sustainable so we don’t have to go through this process again.”
