Rotherham United manager Neil Redfearn talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United manager Neil Redfearn believes that new signing Leon Best will bring valuable experience to his squad following his arrival earlier today.

The Republic of Ireland international earned himself a deal after a successful trial period with the club, becoming boss Redfearn’s first permanent signing in the Rotherham hot-seat.

After monitoring the 29-year-old’s fitness closely over a two-week period, Redfearn admitted he was impressed with what he saw and he expects the younger members of his squad to learn plenty from the vastly experienced front-man.

“I’ve told Leon to try and take Jono (Jonson Clarke-Harris) under his wing a little,” Redfearn told www.themillers.co.uk

“Leon’s arrival will benefit the likes of Jonson, Derbs (Matt Derbyshire) and the other strikers who will be able to play off him.  He is also a goalscorer so he will be a good signing for us.”

Best proved he fitted into Redfearn’s criteria with some impressive performances on the training ground over recent weeks. The Millers boss has expressed a desire to add to his attacking options, whilst also looking to add some experience to his squad, with Best firmly ticking both boxes

“We have played in some behind closed door games and he was the main focal point of everything we did going forward,” Redfearn said of his performances.

“Everything that went into him stuck, and he brought other players into the game. He looked dangerous; he was strong and looked a real handful so it is going to be a good signing for us.”
