Rotherham United sign Leon Best...
Rotherham United have completed the signing of Republic of Ireland international Leon Best, subject to FA and Football League ratification, on a deal until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old forward has impressed Millers boss Neil Redfearn following a trial spell with the club, after previously representing fellow Sky Bet Championship club Blackburn Rovers
The experienced operator agreed terms with the club after completing formalities at the AESSEAL New York Stadium this afternoon.
“It is a great signing for us,” boss Redfearn told www.themillers.co.uk
“He has undoubted quality, he has played at the highest level and there are still plenty of years left in him.
“His ability is without question. There were a lot of clubs interested in him, so we have beaten off a lot of good sides to secure his signature.”
Best is Redfearn’s first permanent signing as Rotherham boss after the loan arrivals of Harry Toffolo and Brandon Barker in recent weeks.
The Millers manager has made no secret of his desire to add some experienced heads to his young squad, and he believes that Best ticks all the right boxes as he looks to bolster his attacking options.
“He gives the team some much needed experience and a physical presence up front,” he added.
“He is someone who can lead the line for us and it will help the strikers who will play up there with him.
“We have been looking at where he is at fitness wise but he has obviously looked after himself really well. He is a strong lad with great physical presence which is something we have been missing.”
The Nottingham-born attacker has represented Republic of Ireland at both senior and Under 21 level and has enjoyed spells with the likes of Southampton, Coventry City and Newcastle United.
He will wear squad number 50 whilst with the Millers.
