Hamshaw pleased with Academy Induction Evening success

Parents and players from Rotherham United’s Academy flocked to AESSEAL New York Stadium to attend the club’s annual induction evening on Thursday evening.

Academy Manager Garreth Barker and his staff took centre stage in the lounges at the Millers’ home in front of a bumper audience as they spoke and gave a presentation outlining the club’s youth set up.

Amongst the faces organising proceedings was Head of Academy Coaching Matt Hamshaw, who outlined the running order of the event at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

“It was our player and parent induction evening on Thursday night,” he explained.

“It’s a really good evening and it ensures both players and parents know what we expect here at Rotherham United.

“What happens is that everyone comes along and the Academy Manager puts on a presentation that covers all aspects of the Academy.

The former professional was keen to emphasise the work that takes place in the department and insisted that it isn’t just a case of players lacing up their boots at the weekend.

“We outlined our expectations of them as both people and footballers. It isn’t just a case of turning up and playing a game on a Sunday morning.

“We train three nights a week and we have learning objectives and a programme for the players to carry out whilst they’re away from the club.

“We cover everything from diet and nutrition to the way we want our teams to play."
