England continued their impressive record in South Yorkshire with a notable 2-1 victory over Germany at under 17 level under the lights at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Goals from Mason Mount and Niall Ennis secured a narrow victory as Steve Cooper’s side tasted victory in front of a crowd in excess of 7,000.

The game got off to an explosive start with two goals inside the first eight minutes. England took the lead in spectacular style when Chelsea’s Mount cut inside with a clever touch before unleashing an unstoppable dipping effort from 20 yards beyond Lennart Grill.

Before the AESSEAL New York crowd could re-take their seats Germany were level. Yari Otto turned smartly in the penalty area before firing goalwards and despite a hand from England ‘keeper Jared Thompson the ball squirmed into the net.

Both sides showed some silky touches around the penalty area in what was turning into an open and entertaining affair. Just past the 20 minute mark Mount and Tottenham’s Samuel Shashoua combined well before Fulham’s Dennis Adeniran fired wide.

On 25 minutes England regained the lead. After well worked short corner Mount drilled a cross into the six yard box for Wolves’ Ennis to convert with a clever back heel.

Just after the break Ennis almost doubled his tally for the evening after shifting the ball out of his feet before firing just over the bar. Just past the hour mark Renat Dadashov bustled his way into the area for Germany but his shot was comfortably wide of the near post.

Sub Manuel Wintzheimer should have levelled for Germany after Thompson had parried a long range effort, but the Chelsea stopper leapt off the floor to make a magnificent recovery save.

England were forced to sustain some late pressure from the visitors but held out for an impressive victory to retain their 100% record at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
