The Millers are out of the Youth Alliance Cup...

Rotherham United were knocked out of the Youth Alliance cup at the third round stage after a 2-0 defeat to Carlisle United.

The Millers run in the competition was ended after two second half goals for the Cumbrians decided a tight encounter.

Rotherham also had left-back Dan Smalley sent off as the Millers impressive run in the competition ended in disappointment.

“We had done really well to beat Burnley to get to this stage,” head of Academy coaching Matt Hamshaw told www.themillers.co.uk

“We were a little unlucky because we started really well but without really creating any clear cut chances.

“There wasn’t much in the game but Carlisle came into it as the game wore on and they got in front in the second half with a deflected free-kick. We had Dan Smalley sent off with about 20 minutes remaining so obviously chasing the game with 10 men and being behind we left gaps in defence, and they caught us on the break for the second.”
