The BTEC Futsal Scholarship (in partnership with The Football League Trust and Rotherham College) offers students the opportunity to play for Rotherham United whilst completing a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (worth 3 A levels). The Futsal experience can lead straight to university, a career in the Sports Industry or professional Football/Futsal. This course will provide students with transferable skills and qualities that can help them develop a long term career in sport. Since the start of the programme 75% of students have progressed onto university including our foundation degree in football coaching and community development.
Female Development squad:
The programme is open to females with the opportunity to play for the Rotherham United female development squad as well as regular futsal games integrated within the programme.
Programme Content:
Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport, The Physiology of Fitness, Assessing Risk in Sport, Fitness Training and Programming, Sports Coaching, Sports Development, Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise, Practical Team Sports, Practical Individual Sports, Sports Nutrition, Current Issues in Sport, Health and Lifestyle, Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise, Psychology for Sports Performance, Sports Injuries, Analysis of Sports Performance, Sport and Exercise Massage, Organising Sports Events, Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport, Sport as a Business, Work Experience in Sport, Functional Skills.
Course Duration:
Full time, 16 hours per week, September-July (39 weeks per year over two years)
Entry requirements:
AT LEAST 4 GCSE’s at Grade A*-C including Maths and English or BTEC First Diploma (Exercise and Fitness) at Merit Level.
Fixtures & Training:
Whilst on the scholarship your timetable will be split between training and the classroom. Futsal scholars train up to 4 hours each week. During this time you will participate in strength and conditioning, fitness, specific Futsal skills and tactics which will further improve you physically, mentally and tactically. All the physical elements will be delivered by our experienced Futsal coaches and Health team.
All Futsal fixtures will be played at National Futsal arenas. These will take place every other week on a Wednesday afternoon with transport provided. The league will be played against a number of Premiership and Football League teams, for example Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Barnsley, Doncaster, Hull, Huddersfield and many more!
