The Millers sign Lawrie Wilson...

Rotherham United have completed the emergency loan signing of Lawrie Wilson from Charlton Athletic, subject to Football League and FA ratification.

Wilson joins the Millers following injuries in defence until the end of the season and boss Steve Evans has confirmed that he will be in the matchday squad for tomorrow’s South Yorkshire derby with Sheffield Wednesday.

The versatile full-back has been heavily involved in Charlton’s first-team plans this season after making 27 appearances in all competitions for the Addicks.

“It has always been our intention to improve the team when any opportunity arises and there is no doubt with the signing of Lawrie the team has been further enhanced,” Evans told www.themillers.co.uk

“The lad is a top class addition and can play very comfortably anywhere on the right of the pitch either in defending or attacking roles.

“It has taken us a few weeks to get the deal completed and this is for sure a great opportunity to look at the boy not only for the challenges ahead this season, but with the real possibility of looking much further than that period.

“He will train with the lads today but in fairness to him he already knows most of the players in the squad so he should fit straight in.

“Lawrie will be involved in tomorrow’s matchday squad although I still have to decide whether he starts or plays a part from the bench.”
