Gunners 'keeper joins on loan...

Rotherham United have signed Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez on an emergency loan deal, subject to Football League, Premier League and FA ratification.

The Argentine stopper joins the Millers until the end of the season following injuries in the goalkeeping department and goes into the squad for the South Yorkshire derby at AESSEAL New York Stadium tomorrow.

Millers boss Steve Evans expressed his happiness at capturing the 22-year-old stopper from the Gunners, who has experience between the sticks at the highest level of the game:

“Everyone at the Football Club are delighted to have signed a young man like Damian given the qualities he has and the very impressive CV he has attained in his very early years as a goalkeeper," Steve Evans told

“It is only as recently as December that this young man was keeping a clean sheet for Arsenal in the Champions League, and he has of course kept more clean sheets in Premier League matches earlier this season.

“He is very clearly highly thought by the manager and all the staff at Arsenal and I must take the chance to thank Arsene Wenger for his courtesy and professionalism in agreeing to allow this young man to spend some time with us.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday last season, making 11 appearances during his time at Hillsborough but will have to displace Adam Collin between the sticks in order to feature against his former club tomorrow:

“He has joined us on loan until the end of the season and will now compete with Adam Collin for the number one spot. In fairness to Adam Collin he has seen many challengers for the jersey come and go but it has to be said none of the quality of big Damian so let the battle begin," explained the Millers boss.
