Voluntary Action Rotherham recognise the great work of volunteers in Rotherham
On June 2nd Rotherham United Community Sports Trust (RUCST) participated in the Rotherham Volunteer walk hosted by Voluntary Action Rotherham. In total there were 120 volunteers that took part from across the town. Representatives included the fire, police and ambulance service, Rotherham and Barnsley Mind, Rush House, Rotherham Hockey Club, Rotherham Pride and many more.
The walk took place from Rotherham Minster through the town centre to Clifton Park. The walk was led by the Deputy Mayor Cllr Christopher Middleton of Rotherham and at the end a representative of Rother FM made a speech to all of the volunteers.
There were 3 representatives from RUCST Chris Hardy, Volunteer and Graduate Coordinator at the Trust along our volunteers Meg, Josh and Saima. Saima was a marshal throughout the walk she had the role of directing the walkers while Meg and Josh were participants in the walk.
Alison Thorp, Volunteering Network and Development Officer at Voluntary Action Rotherham would like to thank Chris Hardy for his help in the organisation of the walk as well as rallying some wonderful marshals.
Chris Hardy commented, “It was a fantastic event. There were over 100 people walking together representing the hard work they do in a positive way. Often marches gather attention for a negative reason, but all the attention we got on this day was for positive reasons. It was also a great chance to network with other companies and learn about what people do in the local community. I hope as a result more people get involved with volunteering in the town”
The idea of the walk was to show case the positives of Rotherham and the great selfless work that each volunteer has been doing. The volunteer walk stands to show Rotherham and the people are still good despite all the local issues.
