Joe Mattock signs for the Millers...

New recruit Joe Mattock insists he can’t wait to get going at AESSEAL New York Stadium following his summer switch to the Millers.

The 25-year-old told www.themillers.co.uk that the move happened swiftly following his recent release from Sheffield Wednesday, and he is looking forward to starting his time with Rotherham.

“It’s come about pretty suddenly really,” he explained.

“My agent got in contact with me about two weeks ago and told me that Rotherham were interested in signing me. My first thoughts were positive because I’ve been up north in Sheffield for the past few years.

“I’m really excited to have met the manager now and excited to see how things go in the future.”

Mattock, who started his career with Leicester City, played 30 times last season for the Owls and was keen to add that remaining in the second tier played a large part in signing with the Millers.

“It was a massive factor. For a player that’s played in the Championship for most of their career its something I want to keep doing.

“The Championship is a tough league and it’s getting tougher and tougher each year and it’s a good test for us.”

The left-back joins the Millers on the back of a three year stint at Hillsborough and already knows about his new teammates having faced them in the fixture at AESSEAL New York Stadium last term.

“It’s a new chapter. Rotherham are a good side who play some good football and have got some really good players, I’m excited to get to know them and see what we can do."
