Steve Evans beats a host of rivals to sign Grant Ward...

Rotherham United have signed Tottenham Hotspur starlet Grant Ward on a loan deal subject to Football League and Premier League ratification.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been training with the Millers and impressed in a second half cameo against Parkgate FC in midweek, scoring in a 6-0 victory before adding to his Millers tally against Stocksbridge last weekend.

Millers boss Steve Evans moved quickly to snap up the talented youngster, who shot to prominence last season with an impressive loan spell at Sky Bet League One outfit Coventry City.

“Everyone inside the football club, none more so than the players, will be delighted to hear the news that we have now completed the signing of Grant Ward from Tottenham Hotspur,” boss Steve Evans told www.themillers.co.uk

“First and foremost I must thank Mauricio Pochettino and Paul Mitchell at Spurs for approving the loan.

“There has been significant competition for the lad’s signature, but we took the opportunity to have him with us for a few days, and I was delighted when he informed me this morning that he has chosen us versus several Championship options.

“Grant has a big career in front of him and he now has the opportunity to make steps up the ladder with a successful loan spell with the Millers.”

Ward made 11 appearances whilst at the Ricoh Arena and also enjoyed a loan spell with MLS side Chicago Fire in 2014.

He becomes the eighth signing of the close season following the arrivals of Aidy White, Joe Mattock, Lewis Buxton, Emmanuel Ledesma, Danny Collins, Tom Thorpe and Greg Halford.
