Steve Evans talks to Millers Player...

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans confirmed that defender Joe Mattock’s injury isn’t as serious as first feared.

The left-back was forced off during the Millers 3-0 victory over Greenock Morton on Saturday, but Evans confirmed that x-rays revealed no break in Mattock’s ankle resulting in only a short spell on the sidelines.

“Paul Warne and Mike Preston took Joe away for an x-ray late on Saturday evening because there was a little bit of swelling around the ankle joint,” Evans told Millers Player.

“We came away from that with two things. The best news is that the x-ray showed that there are no breaks in there, so there will be another scan later today to ascertain what the swelling is.

“We are hoping that it’ll be just a couple of weeks. Overall we had a fantastic response by the staff at the hospital, and it was good news for Joe.”

Evans also revealed that his players will be given extended playing time when they take on Dundee tomorrow night at Dens Park, kick off 7.30pm.

“We’ll be strong, we’ll probably ask players who did 60 minutes to go nearer 80 minutes,” Evans confirmed.

“The players who did 70 minutes would be moving nearer to 90 minutes, because it is important that the majority of the group have had a 90 before the games against Leicester and Mainz.”
