A brief look at the Millers' new signing's career so far...
26-year-old attacker Chris Maguire joins the Millers as their 11th summer signing and arrives at AESSEAL New York Stadium with a wealth of Sky Bet Championship experience.
Able to operate both in midfield and attack, the Bellshill-born man joins Steve Evans’ side on the back of a three year stint with neighbours Sheffield Wednesday. Renowned for his industry and creativity, the attacker is also capable of producing quality from set-pieces.
Maguire began his career with Aberdeen back in 2005 where he made over 100 appearances in a stay spanning over six years. During his time at Pittodrie Stadium the highly-rated forward earned caps for Scotland at both Under 19 and 21’s level, having already established himself in the national team’s youth set up in 2004.
During his time in Scotland he caught the eye of a number of clubs south of the border and attracted significant interest from Derby in 2011. That prompted the Rams to stump up a compensation fee to secure his services before he enjoyed a one-year stint at the iPro Stadium.
A loan spell on the South Coast with Portsmouth saw Maguire notch three goals in 11 appeances for Pompey before returning to Derby at the end of a fruitful temporary switch.
By this time the forward had established himself in the Scotland set up and made his full debut for his country in 2011 in a 3-0 win over Northern Ireland.
Following strong interest from Hillsborough, Maguire made the switch to Sheffield Wednesday in 2012. Playing both on the right-hand side of midfield predominantly during his time in S6, the 26-year-old has managed an impressive goals return. 78 games for the Owls has seen him return 18 goals with an additional two to his name during a three game loan spell with Coventry City.
