Academy Manager Garreth Barker celebrated the first win of 2015 after his youngsters demolished Notts County 3-0.

Skipper Alex Willes capped an impressive performance with two goals whilst Jerry Yates also found himself on the scoresheet.

Barker was delighted with the performance as the Millers converted some good recent performances into points.

“It was a great result against a Notts County side who are doing well in the league,” said Barker.

“We played them earlier in the season and came out victorious on that occasion too so it completed a nice double for the lads.

“The match was played in blustery conditions which made it difficult for both teams but we told the lads to stick to our principles despite the tricky conditions.

“The lads were excellent throughout with the first couple of goals arriving through a combination of hard work, pressing and good organisation. We also capitalised on a couple of errors by Notts County but the errors were created by good pressure by ourselves.

“We led 2-0 at the break and we were good value for that. It should have been more with a good chance for Darnelle Bailey-King going begging but after initial good play Darnelle’s effort was brilliantly saved.

“Notts County changed the way they played in the second half and the lads came under some intense pressure but Alex (Wiles) grabbed his second and our third and we started to exert more pressure.

“Jerry (Yates) then missed an open net which was an uncharacteristic and then Mason Warren also went close so we could have won by a bigger margin.

“Overall we can have few complaints and the bonus was of course we kept a clean sheet too so it was a good day all round.”

The Millers are next in league action against Doncaster Rovers on January 24th.
