Conor Sammon talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

New signing Conor Sammon believes the Millers will take plenty of positives into Tuesday’s Championship clash with Bolton Wanderers.

The on loan Derby County marksman joined the Millers in time to make his debut in the defeat to league leaders AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.

After a loan stint at Ipswich Town was cut short to pave the way for the Republic of Ireland international to join the Millers, the former Wigan front-man is fully focused on helping the Millers back to winning ways against Neil Lennon’s Trotters.

“There were positives to take from the Bournemouth game and I feel much better for the 90 minutes that I got under my belt,” Sammon told www.themillers.co.uk

“It was disappointing that we couldn’t get any points because we had a game plan of trying to stop them playing. Bournemouth are a team that like to play out from the back and pass the ball but the manager had us well drilled on how to counter that and I thought we did that well. We pressed the ball and squeezed them high up the pitch whilst also stopping the ‘keeper playing it out short.

“For long periods we made it hard for them and got in their faces whilst we had one or two chances ourselves. Jack Barmby was very close with a shot after a good break and if that had dropped in it could have been a different game.

“The timing of the goal disturbed the flow of the game which was disappointing but we kept plugging away but couldn’t carve out an opening to nick a goal which would have perhaps made them uncomfortable. At 2-0 the next goal was crucial as I thought if we had got one back we would have gone on form there but it wasn’t to be.

“Bolton will be tough but we will be working hard throughout the week and hopefully we can go one better in the next game.”

Sammon will be hoping for better when the Millers entertain Bolton in a re-arranged fixture next Tuesday 27th January, kick off 7.45pm at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
