The Millers in Reserve action...

Rotherham United Reserves were pegged back after leading 2-0 in their Final Third Development League fixture with Doncaster Rovers.

The Millers lead after goals from Jerry Yates and the returning Jonson Clarke-Harris before goals from Matthew Davis and Billy Whitehouse earned Doncaster a share of the spoils.

Rotherham included a mix of scholars and senior professionals which included Conor Newton, Jordan Bowery and Adam Hammill.

With manager Steve Evans looking on the Millers made a flying start when Yates swept the ball home from 12 yards following a knockdown to give Rotherham the lead.

On eight minutes Hammill’s low daisy cutter was held by Marko Maposi as the Millers pressed for a second. They were then dealt a double injury blow when scholars Alex Wiles and Luke Gibson were forced off to be replaced by Bradley Peace-McDonald and Reece Lucas.

Lewis Ferguson came close for the visitors when his shot was saved by Tony Thompson before Liam Mandeville’s shot was also kept out by the Millers stopper.

On 37 minutes captain Daniel Rowe’s firm shot took a deflection but Maposi made a sprawling save.

The Millers made it 2-0 soon after when Hammill’s corner was headed back across goal by Rowe for Clarke-Harris to head beyond Maposi.

Rovers responded instantly when the lively Whitehouse fired in a low shot from the angle leaving Thompson with no chance.

The visitors made a bright start to the second half and were level just before the hour mark with Davis tapping in after a cross from the right.

It was certainly Doncaster’s half as they then struck a post before Whitehouse had an effort saved by Thompson. Late on Whitehouse struck a fierce shot just past the far post as they game ended level.
