No Deadline Day deals says Evans

Steve Evans talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Manager Steve Evans has confirmed the Millers will not be making any signings before the 11pm deadline.

Evans, who has been pushing on two fronts to add to his squad, revealed that neither deal had reached a conclusion but was delighted to fend off any interest in some of his prized assets as the clock closes in on 11pm.

“It is always one of my first priorities to inform the Millers support of what is happening in respect to the playing staff at AESSEAL New York Stadium,” Evans told www.themillers.co.uk

“On a positive note despite significant interest in two of our players I can confirm that no member of the core group here will be leaving.

“During the course of the last week we have made two significant offers for players and despite increased offers over the weekend both deals have failed to materialise.

“Having met with the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer this evening I have come to the conclusion that we will not be adding to the squad prior to the 11pm deadline this evening.

“We must all remain mindful that the emergency loan market opens in a week and should we need injury cover and in the event that the right player becomes available, we will be in the position where by we can move very quickly.”

Overall Evans was content with the business done in January, with the Millers adding the likes of Danny Ward, Adam Hammill, Jack Barmby, Zeki Fryers and Jack Hunt to his squad.

“I stated when the transfer window opened on the 1st January we would be much stronger as a squad when the window closed, I firmly believe that objective has undoubtedly been achieved,” he added.

“It is the intention of my Chairman, my board of directors and I to strengthen the squad and I am confident this will happen.

“Our squad is very talented, the team spirit is excellent and competition for a starting place is great. On Saturday we host Ipswich Town, a team who are very much involved in a fight to win promotion to the Premier League, my focus is solely on that match.”
