Danny Ward is delighted to be off and running with the Millers...

Danny Ward’s first goal for Rotherham United last weekend came as quite a relief to the former Huddersfield marksman.

Ward, who made a permanent switch to the AESSEAL New York Stadium at the start of this month, pounced on an Adam Hammill centre to earn Steve Evans’ side a share of the spoils after the Millers fell behind to Charlton Athletic at The Valley.

The close range strike was Ward’s first goal in Rotherham colours and he admitted that the moment the ball hit the net he was delighted to get off the mark.

“It was a weight off my shoulders because coming in as an attacking player your job is to create and score goals,” said Danny. “It was nice to get off the mark and hopefully I can push on now.

“I have had spells with other clubs when I have gone quite a while without scoring and it can start to play on your mind, so it was massive to get a goal early in my Rotherham career.”

The 24-year-old came off the bench along with Hammill and fellow January signing Jack Hunt to make a real impact in the second half at The Valley, and Ward now hopes the Millers can push on and build on the last two results.

“It is the old cliché, we have to take each game as it comes,” he added.

“You have to just focus on the next fixture, the moment you start jumping ahead of yourself you are in danger of losing your way.”
