Neil Redfearn post Blackburn Rovers...

Rotherham United manager Neil Redfearn believed his side deserved much better after a narrow defeat to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

An own goal in the first half from Luke Hyam was enough to seal the points for the home team, but the Millers will be left wondering how they didn’t take something from the game after creating good opportunities in both halves.

After the game the Millers manager remained upbeat despite the defeat, praising his side for their performance, and urging them to take confidence from their display.

“I have to say that we were the better side, particularly second half, you could say that we were camped inside their half at times,” said Redfearn

“We created enough chances. In the first half we had two or three opportunities to go in front. The goal is a mishap, the ball into the box should have been dealt with and obviously Luke puts the ball into his own goal.

“We have to stay upbeat because that is four performances on the trot that have been good. We have played well today and at times we have made them look ordinary and we have created enough chances. The bottom line is that if you create chances you have to put them in the back of the net.

“The performance is heartening. The application from the lads was first class. It was an upbeat performance and I said to them in the dressing room ‘you don’t go out with your heads down, get your heads up and push your chest out’ because we have been the better side tonight.

“We have to keep going. We need to dust ourselves off and we need to go again. We need to keep getting people in front of goal and we need to keep saying the same message. We have to be ruthless; we have to make sure that these chances turn into points.”

Redfearn is hopeful of welcoming back trio Leon Best, Danny Ward and Stephen Kelly for the trip to Huddersfield on Tuesday. Best is available again after suspension, whilst Ward and Kelly are fighting to be fit after missing the game tonight through injury.

“I am hoping to have Best, Kelly and Danny Ward available,” he added.

“The signs are good that it is looking that way so that will be a big plus. They add strength.

“We go to Huddersfield and if we can put the same performance in then we have a chance. I was really pleased with the performance tonight."
