Richard Wood returns to the AESSEAL New York Stadium...

Richard Wood has been recalled from his loan spell with Sky Bet League One side Chesterfield.

The central defender joined the Spireites in November and made seven appearances in all competitions, which included a start in Chesterfield’s 1-1 draw with Coventry City yesterday.

“Harry Toffolo has a virus so we have recalled Richard because we needed the extra body, but we wanted to bring Richard back anyway," boss Neil Redfearn told www.themillers.co.k.

“He has been out and got some games and it will be good for me now to have a look at him. He is an experienced defender and he gives us good competition and cover. He is somebody that I haven’t really had chance to have a good look at, so it will be good for me to see him at close quarters.

“He played yesterday and helped Chesterfield to a good point against Coventry. He is obviously someone who is very capable. We are light on bodies because of injuries at the moment so he gives us depth, and he has the opportunity now to stake a claim for a place in our first team.

“He probably needed to go out, because he really needed to be playing. He has done that now, and he comes back to us ready to fight for a place.”

The 30-year-old has also enjoyed a loan spell with fellow League One side Fleetwood Town earlier this season.
