Millers fall to narrow defeat at Roundwood...

A solitary goal proved the difference at a blustery Roundwood Sports Complex as Rotherham United slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers.

Both sides’ attempts to retain possession were hampered by the weather conditions on Saturday but it was the visitors who came out on top in a scrappy all-South Yorkshire affair.

The Millers thought they had registered on the scoresheet when in-form striker Kuda Muskwe lofted the ball over the goalkeeper only to see his goalbound effort repelled by the wind.

“I think the spectacle was ruined by the weather,” explained Academy Manager Garreth Barker.

“Kuda should have scored a goal when he’s chipped the ‘keeper and the ball is about to cross the line but the wind pushes it around the post and it doesn’t even go out of play.”

The Millers then fell behind to what proved to be the only goal of the game but Barker admits he was not too deflated by the defeat after a busy week that saw his team travel to Stevenage for FA Youth Cup action.

“It was about playing the conditions and Doncaster scored a goal that reflected that,” he admitted.

“I’m not too concerned because it’s been a big, long week for the boys coming on the back of the FA Youth Cup which has taken a lot out of them with the journey and the late nights."
