Steve Evans talks to Millers Player HD...

Steve Evans’ only injury concern is full-back Joe Mattock in the build-up to the Sky Bet Championship curtain raiser with MK Dons at AESSEAL New York Stadium tomorrow.

Evans confirmed to Millers Player HD yesterday that defender Lewis Buxton and striker Danny Ward were both fit for inclusion in the matchday squad, whilst new signing Joe Newell is fully up to speed following his arrival from Peterborough United on Wednesday.

The only doubt is Mattock who was rated as 50/50 by the Millers boss, who will host the newly-promoted Dons in the highly anticipated season opener.

“Joe Mattock is probably 50/50, we will see where he is in the morning,” Evans confirmed.

“It could still mean he will be fit and we would like Joe Mattock playing for sure.

“Lewis Buxton is fit and available to play if selected. I spoke to the staff who were at the Sunderland game and they gave a glowing testament to how good Lewis Buxton was.

“Danny Ward has trained all week but we didn’t send him to Sunderland based on the fact if he did get a knock then it could send him backwards. In terms of fitness, Danny is in excellent shape.”

Evans has several options available to him in a number of positions but admitted that he knows his team for the game, whilst his new captain will not be unveiled until tomorrow afternoon.
