Millers boss Evans is hopeful full-back Joe Mattock will be fit for tomorrow...

Defender Joe Mattock could return for Rotherham United ahead of the Sky Bet Championship showdown with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The full-back missed the opening two fixtures with an Achilles injury which he picked up in the pre-season victory over Greenock Morton, but has been making steady progress in recent weeks in a bid to regain full fitness.

The former Sheffield Wednesday operator took part in full training again this week and manager Steve Evans admitted that he is in contention for a return to the matchday squad for the trip to Nottingham Forest tomorrow.

“We hope he will be. He’s trained today and the medical guys have told me there’s no ill-effects,” he told www.themillers.co.uk.

“He might have woken up this morning feeling his ankle or not quite right but we’re hoping he’ll have woken up thinking ‘I’m looking forward to training’.

“If he’s fit he’s in contention. We’ll look at him today. I took him on my own at the end of the session and made him strike a few balls properly with that foot. It’s his weaker foot anyway so he doesn’t strike too many with that foot but we made him do it."
