Rotherham United’s Academy fell to a narrow defeat despite taking the lead against Hull City.

Garreth Barker’s side went in front thanks to a goal from Alex Wiles but couldn’t hold on eventually succumbing to a 3-1 defeat.

Academy Manager Garreth Barker praised his team for their endeavours despite the loss:

“We made a good start to the game and got ourselves in front thanks to a goal from Alex Wiles,” said Garreth.

“We were up against a very good side, playing good football with some good players but we said if we could be in the game at the halfway stage then that would give us a good platform to work from.

“However straight after going in front we then conceded after a couple of defensive errors. It was 1-1 at half-time and we felt good about the second half but because we have a few injuries at this moment when we wanted to make changes in the second half we were relying on 15 and 16 year olds, so Hull just had a bit more experience than us at their disposal.

“We conceded a couple more times but there were positives to take from the experience and credit to Hull who played well on the day.”

Team: Denton; Potts, Peace-McDonald, Bailey, Shelley, Yates, A.Wiles, Fenton, Johnson, Muskwe (Rose 65), Norfolk.

Unused: Bilboe, B. Wiles, Osborne.
