Rotherham United’s Academy has joined forces with the Rotherham United Community Sports Trust to help unearth more local football talent.

The Trust and the Academy have increased their link to allow a smooth passage for any youngster who impresses in Community coaching initiatives to join the Millers’ flourishing youth set-up.

This has resulted in a number of talented youngsters being given the opportunity to impress the Millers Academy.

“We have further strengthened our communication channel with Head of Community Jamie Noble and the Rotherham United Community Sports Trust,” Garreth Barker confirmed.

“The Community team work with a lot of kids in the local area whilst also running their own football initiatives so it makes sense for us to try and tap into this as part of our talent identification process.

“We have been having regular dialogue which has resulted in a high number of players coming down for trials and some those lads have now signed for the Academy at under 11s and under 12s level.

“It just goes to show that there are players out there in the Rotherham area that are not necessarily signed to an Academy who are good enough. This has also been proven with our open trials which have also been very successful.”
