The Millers sign Scott Wootton...

Rotherham United have completed the emergency loan signing of defender Scott Wootton from Leeds United, subject to Football League ratification.

Wootton, 23 is a graduate of the academy at Manchester United where he made four appearances in all competitions, including the League Cup and Champions League.

The centre-back had several loan spells away from Old Trafford before finally sealing a permanent switch to Leeds United in 2013, becoming an integral part of their team last season.

“The signing of young Scott completes some fantastic business for us,” boss Steve Evans told www.themillers.co.uk

“We recently visited Leeds United for a closed door match, the two clubs were very strong on the day and it was obvious to everyone that this young man was outstanding.

“The lad has a great pedigree, of course starting at Manchester United before he joined the great Leeds United for a deal in excess of £1million.

“For one being so young the lad has some great experience having played in the Champions League and the Premier League. He is an accomplished central defender and equally as strong as a right full back. He has great strength aerially and is a very welcome addition to what is a talented squad of players.

“I have also taken further references from some of the coaching staff at Old Trafford and the previous managers at Elland Road and all of them bar exception said I should sign the player.

“For a final reference I spoke with Paul Green who also endorses not only the ability but equally if not more important the attitude of the young man.”

Wootton will join up with fellow new recruits Reece James and Tom Lawrence who put pen-to-paper yesterday and this morning respectively.
