Millers confirm first pre-season date

21 May 2014

Championship opposition regardless of promotion...

Rotherham United will play Nottingham Forest in pre-season, with a game at New York Stadium on Wednesday 23rd July.

Regardless of whether the Millers claim victory and a position in the Championship next season, then Stuart Pearce, who takes over at the City Ground over the summer will still be bringing his side to South Yorkshire to face Steve Evans’ men.

“It will be a great game,” Evans told “We’re seeing now more and more games between Premier League teams when they go on tour pre and even post-season, so whatever division we’re in, it’s going to be a chance to test ourselves against a top Championship side. They are a good club, with a rich history and I’m sure they will have plenty of fans wanting to see New York Stadium for the first time, so after speaking to Stuart, it’s a fixture that we were both enthusiastic about.”

The Millers only other confirmed plans for pre-season will see them travel to Scotland between 10th and 19th July, but more detailed pre-season plans will be released following the play-off final.
