Steve Evans talks to Millers Player

Steve Evans says he will be looking to ‘embrace’ the occasion this evening as his Rotherham United side lock horns with Preston North End in the play-off semi-final first leg.

It will be Evans’ first taste of play-off football and the Millers boss has admitted that he is looking forward to embracing the occasion with a large crowd expected for both legs against Simon Graysom’s Lilywhites.

“For me it isn’t about nerves, it is about embracing these occasions and I know that we have some big players going into these games,” Evans told Millers Player.

“The likes of Arnason who is a full international, Davis who has played in the Premier League, Morgan who is used to these type of play-off games – we have a number of players with good experience but so have Preston. They also have players with Premier League and Championship experience behind them.”

The Millers have been preparing meticulously all week for tonight’s showdown, using the immaculate playing surface at New York Stadium to enhance their planning for the end of season showcase. Whilst, there has been a change of venue, Evans says he has tried to make it as normal as possible for the players ahead of the crunch encounter.

“I’ll be quite honest I don’t really have nerves, I am just really focused on making sure the preparation is right,” he said.

“It has been about trying keep things as normal as possible for me, and I try to make sure that it is likewise for the playing staff too.”
