During the Easter holidays, Rotherham United Community Sports Trust once again ran soccer camps at different Rotherham venues.

Masterclasses are for children aged 5-14, giving them the chance to improve their football skills, get active and make new friends all whilst having fun.

The soccer camps ran during both weeks of the holidays (Monday 14th – Thursday 17th April and Tuesday 22nd – Friday 25th April) at Wickersley School & Sports College, and at Rotherham Indoor Football Centre (Eastwood Industrial Estate) during the second week. Both camps proved hugely successful with over 100 children attending over the two weeks making it one of the most successful camps in recent times.

RUCST’s FA qualified coaches were on hand at all times and all the participants who attended got the chance to win medals as well as receiving an Easter egg at the end of the week.

During the Masterclasses, some of the young people got chance to meet one of Rotherham United's star strikers, Alex Revell, who took part in a Q & A session. The youngsters were overjoyed to meet one of their favourite football stars.

As well as the Masterclasses, RUCST ran a Girls Only Football Camp which proved very successful with over 20 girls attending.

James Rawlinson Sports Development Officer commented “The Masterclasses give the young people of Rotherham the opportunity to come and work with some of our coaches, develop their skills and hopefully see football in a better light.

“We run Masterclasses during every school holiday so keep an eye out for dates and venues.”

We also received some great feedback from one of the parents… “Could you please congratulate your Wickersley Team on behalf of me, Luke & Ryan. Over the past two weeks they have all worked really hard to make everyone feel welcome and as a parent I know that my children are 100% looked after while in their care.

“At the end of the first week I collected my boys and the two friends that came with them, Jacob had never been before and as soon as he got into the car said “I'm definitely coming again, it’s so much better than other soccer camps I have been to.” My youngest also won the world cup this week and his medal has pride of place in his bedroom.  Thanks to Rotherham United for the Easter Eggs.

“The second week my boys and one of their friends had Luke again but this time with Kirby, my younger son loved it from day one and was really pleased that Kirby took the time to tell me how hard he had worked throughout the day.  My eldest was not as impressed but did admit it was because he'd had to work hard - the second day he came home and had absolutely loved it.  He'd had a knock the first day and I was impressed that Coach Kirby made a point of asking him if he was alright as soon as he saw him the next morning.  By the end of the week both boys were really happy and the youngest even said “Bet my coach sees an improvement in me!” and then said “If I continue to work this hard I might even get into an academy somewhere!”

“I have to say that from day one in October the whole team have always been pleasant to both adults and children alike, but I can see that the younger members of staff are learning from the others and the level of respect throughout the group/team shows and this gives me, as a parent, pride that my children will also learn from this.  The team look happy in their work and this fortnight has brought is challenges just by the weather, one week bright sunshine, the other rain, sun and then rain, but on every day the team as a whole were pleasant and welcoming.

“I would like to say a big well done and thank you to Sarah, Kirby, Mark, Joe, Zac, Luke, Jordan and Alix.  This team really is a credit to Rotherham United and should be really proud of themselves and each other. My boys have enjoyed it so much I asked Sarah to book them on for the next holidays in May and I've already completed the registration form.”
