A young Millers team are beaten by Hull City...

A youthful Rotherham United Reserves fell to 4-0 defeat to Hull City, a result which secured the Tigers the Final Third Development East League title.

The Millers fielded a team solely of teenagers for the visit of the league leaders with just Nicky Walker and Daniel Rowe featuring with professional experience.

Hull dominated the early exchanges going close on five minutes when Matthew Fletcher headed Connor Henderson’s corner just wide.

On 11 minutes the Tigers broke the deadlock after the Millers failed to clear their lines resulting in a 20 yard strike from Paul McElroy which curled beyond the grasp of Charlie Bryan.

Five minutes later Bryan made a smart save to keep the visitors at bay but was powerless on 17 minutes when Fletcher was picked out for an easy tap-in to double Hull’s advantage.

It didn’t get much better for the Millers when Hull went 3-0 in front on 22 minutes. Danny Chambers brought the ball under his spell inside the area before turning on a sixpence and firing beyond Bryan into the net.

The match settled down for the 10 minutes before Bryan again made another save, this time racing out of his goal to deny Fletcher.

After a sedate start to the second half, Hull made it a four star performance in some style. Sub Max Clark spotted Bryan off his line before executing the perfect chip to find the top corner and increase the Tigers’ stranglehold on the game.

The Millers best chance of the game came just before the hour mark when Jerry Yates won possession off the Hull full-back before squaring the ball to Connor Bell whose shot was well kept out by Joe Cracknell.

The Millers rallied late on creating two chances. Firstly Michael Williamson combined well with James Cadman before feeding the ball into the path of Walker, but his first time effort was tipped wide by Cracknell. Then Cracknell was again tested a minute later when Walker found Bell, this time the Hull ‘keeper saved low to his left.
