Evans pleased with engine-room...

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans watched Lee Frecklington notch another contender for goal of the season on Tuesday night to cap a string of fine performances at the heart of the Millers midfield which saw him nominated for the February League Two Player of the Month award.

However, his displays in the engine room have not gone unnoticed by the gaffer who has praised his stand-in skipper but also some other high-quality performers around him.

“When Frecklington plays like that (Tuesday), which he has done a lot this season then he’s simply up there with the best, and as I’ve said publically this week, Pringle is a special talent,” Evans told Millers Player.

“They get in those final third positions and when they get there, their execution levels are high and they need to be high because this league is really tough and there’s some real quality in this division, with one of those teams we come up against on Saturday.”

However, Frecklington’s performances have coincided with the arrival of Middlesbrough loanee Richie Smallwood who has also caught the eye of the Millers boss.

“We brought Richie in because he does a side of the game that nobody else we have did, and with Micky (O’Connor) chomping at the bit and looking great in training and Robert Milsom back fit it’s good. Richie does the ugly side of the game and while he’ll never be on the lips of supporters going away from the ground after the game he’ll always be on the mind of the managers and I know Lee Johnson said Tuesday night how impressed he was with him.”
