Steve Evans talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Steve Evans has returned from a flying visit to his native Scotland and confirmed that work continues at pace as he continues to put together his squad for next season.

Having made offers to three of his squad who are out of contract from last season, Evans confirmed that both Kari Arnason and Mark Bradley have expressed a desire to stay with the Millers, whilst talks are continuing with striker Wes Thomas.

“Late on Friday Kari Arnason indicated he would like to stay at Rotherham United so obviously I am delighted,” Evans told www.themillers.co.uk

“The big man has been excellent for me for two consecutive seasons, helping us to promotion in both and he has played a key part in that achievement.

“Mark Bradley has also indicated the same so that is further good news. In relation to Wes Thomas I understand talks continue and we will see where that lands in the next few days too.”

After already securing the signatures of Conor Newton, Matt Derbyshire and Scott Loach, the Millers boss has confirmed that he is hopeful of adding to his squad next week.

“First let me say now that our supporters should not listen to rumour or perhaps what they read, agents work in many different ways. An example of that is Rotherham United being widely linked to a defender from a League One club. He is a fine defender but there is no truth in this, we have our specific targets.

“I am hopeful we will add to our squad in the next few days but there are still a few things to be sorted out before that can happen. Our targets are very much aware of our interest, a number of them have met with myself on a number of occasions already.

“In addition we also have a number of offers made to other clubs for certain players and it will be in the next few days that we will establish what is happening in relation to them. I would expect to have added to our squad this week; hopefully those new players can come in with the same desire to succeed as the lads we have kept.

“As for players leaving, we all wish young Danny Hylton every success at Oxford United. David Worrall is the only other player who will leave and there is a lot of interest in him so we will see where that goes too.

“This is a great time to be at Rotherham United, what a season we have to look forward to. The Championship has some fantastic football clubs and great players; we look forward to the challenges that will bring.”
