Steve Evans talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans praised the professionalism of new signing Matt Derbyshire following the capture of the former Blackburn front-man.

Derbyshire becomes the Millers second summer signing as Evans looks to mould his squad for the upcoming assault on The Championship.

The 28-year-old signed on the dotted line on Friday afternoon and Evans cited the ex-Olympiacos strikers' professionalism as key factor in his decision to move for the striker.

“We have been speaking to his representatives for around a week or two,” Evans confirmed to www.themillers.co.uk

“We knew for a fact that this deal would only become a possibility if we were playing Championship football, but the discussions continued, his representatives were very thorough, as was Matt himself which we found extremely professional.”

Evans also admitted that he spoke to three of Derbyshire’s former managers before concluding the deal.

“My conversations to him were all about our style of play, our training and preparation and his answers just told me what a good professional he was,” added the Millers boss.

“My last call was this morning (Friday) when we knew that this deal was a real possibility, I also took council from three of his former managers and each one of them said sign him up. It looks like a brilliant signing for Rotherham United, only time will tell if that proves to be the case.”

Derbyshire joins Conor Newton at New York Stadium next season after the former Newcastle midfielder also put pen-to-paper with the Millers, just before the play-off final success over Leyton Orient.
