Matt Derbyshire talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

New signing Matt Derbyshire is counting down the days to the new campaign as he eagerly awaits his New York Stadium bow.

The former Blackburn Rovers, Olympiacos and Nottingham Forest striker joined the Millers at the back end of last week, getting his first glimpse of New York Stadium in the process.

Having played at under-21 level for England and in Greek Cup finals for Olympiacos he is no stranger to a red-hot atmosphere, but the 28-year-old revealed the NYS roar is something he cannot wait to hear.

“I’ve heard that the atmosphere here is tremendous, the fans are fantastic from the reports I’ve heard so I cannot wait to get on the pitch and show the fans how hard I am willing to work for the team,” Derbyshire told Millers Player.

“I cannot wait for the season; I am ready to go now to be honest. I am really looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

Derbyshire is set to start a new chapter in his career which blossomed from his early beginnings as a fresh-faced youngster at Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League. The industrious front-man still harbours success and believes he has come to the right club at the right time.

“The Chairman and the manager are very ambitious, I did speak to other clubs in and around The Championship, but I am delighted to have signed for Rotherham,” he continued.

“I sat down with the manager, spoke to him at length and I was impressed with what he had to say and his future plans for the club.

“You can see by looking around the club the ambition of the Chairman and it is great to be a part of what is happening here.”
