A full background on new signing Kirk Broadfoot...
Born in Irvine, Scotland, Broadfoot made his name with St. Mirren after leaving Hibernian as a youngster.
His move to Love Street proved highly successful and he was part of the side that helped the Buddies into the Scottish Premier League, taking over the responsibility of the captaincy
His form for St. Mirren didn’t go unnoticed and after playing one season in the top flight with the Buddies, he eventually moved to Scottish giants Rangers in July 2007 making his debut in a Champions League Qualifier against FK Zeta.
He couldn’t have had a better start to his league career with the Gers when after coming off the bench for the final six minutes he scored, in a 7-2 hammering of Falkirk.
He spent his initial time at Ibrox on the fringes of the starting 11 before making the full-back position his own and playing a significant role in the Gers’ run to the UEFA Cup final. That run saw the 6 foot 3 inch Ayrshire native come up against and see off Fiorentina, Werder Bremen and Sporting Lisbon amongst others before eventually falling to Zenit Saint Petersburg in front of 43,000 at the City of Manchester Stadium.
He did pick up the Scottish League Cup that season for Walter Smith’s side and three Premier League medals in 2009, 2010 and 2011 before leaving the club in the summer of 2012. He joined Blackpool, and former teammate Barry Ferguson, just a week later and played 53 games for the Seasiders in a two-year spell before leaving at the culmination of the 2013/14 campaign.
Internationally, after representing his country at Under-21 and Scotland B, he received his first call up to the senior side in September 2008 when he made his debut (and scored) against Iceland. He would go on to play a further three games for the Tartan Army.
