Hometown boy excited by return...

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans has expressed his delight at capturing former Leeds United and Middlesbrough defender Frazer Richardson.

Rotherham-bred Richardson, who was at New York Stadium this morning has been speaking with the Millers since the close season, before putting pen-to-paper on a two-year deal.

“I’m delighted to land the player a couple of months since I first heard of him coming out of Middlesbrough,” Evans told www.themillers.co.uk

“It goes without saying that it’s excellent to capture a lad like this who has had a number of offers from Championship clubs, but given the opportunity for a player of this calibre to play for his hometown club with Championship status, meant that Frazer made it very very easy to conclude a deal.”

With over 300 appearances to his name, Richardson brings with him a wealth of experience having spent the lion’s share of his career in the Championship and the Millers boss also listened to more than one ringing endorsement of the player before finalising a deal.

“The lad has a fantastic professionalism about him, he’s a top quality addition who can play at right-back or on the right hand side of midfield, or even at the centre of defence if needed and comes with the highest endorsement from people at Middlesbrough, Southampton and most recently Mick McCarthy at Ipswich Town.”
