Gaffer looking from non-league to Premier League and beyond...

Boss Steve Evans says he is looking ‘across the levels’ as he builds a squad ready to take on The Championship come August 9th.

With Conor Newton and Matt Derbyshire being joined by ‘keeper Scott Loach, Evans is carefully forging ahead with his recruitment operation as he looks for the perfect blend ahead of one of the most exciting seasons in Rotherham United’s history.

Derbyshire and Loach come with a wealth of experience playing in The Championship, and Evans revealed that whilst that second-tier knowhow is invaluable, he is casting his net throughout the levels as he continues to mould his squad for next season.

“In the main we said that we would like to sign some Championship experience which we have,” Evans told www.themillers.co.uk. “Having said that there are one or two non-league players that we like, there are some players from Premier League clubs that we have monitored, and also from the league we have just left.

“When we have finished our recruitment process we will have gone across the levels, at this moment in time we have signed three players but we are still very early in our recruitment for next season, we have had plenty of meetings with more planned over the next few days.”

Former Watford and Ipswich custodian Loach became signing number three when he put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal yesterday, and Evans is optimistic that more new signings are on the horizon in the days ahead.

“We are hopeful of more news on our recruitment, whether that is before the week is done, we’ll have to wait and see,” he added.

“I will continue to meet with potential new recruits and talk football, I don’t need to sell them a dream, I don’t need to sell them a vision I just show them the proof. I show them our fantastic stadium, our increased attendance figures and our season ticket sales and shirt sales for the season ahead. The figures don’t lie; this is a great time for Rotherham United Football Club.”
